Alcohol use can come with dangerous consequences because of the way it can alter the human brain and damage health. I believe that the longevity and quality of life for Americans would greatly improve if the production and sale of alcohol was made illegal. Alcohol consumption causes problems in relationships, car accidents, uses of other drugs, and serious health issues. Typically, alcohol use is abused because people lose self-control the more they consume, and the substance is addictive. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Incorporation, the use of alcohol causes 2.5 million deaths per year. These deaths come from physical and mental health complications and accidents involving machinery. If alcohol was illegal, millions of lives could be prolonged and even saved annually. The legality of alcohol use and production is not just a current issue; it has been seen as a problem for over a century. In the early 20th century, prohibition leaders were worried about the spread of a drinking culture around the United States.
